02 Nov Wearing more than just our riding hats….
If you have been following our journey over the last few years, you will know that FOMO is gaining popularity amongst novice and professional riders alike, with our award-winning flagship product, the FOMO FAZE body protector. Perhaps you’ve seen us at a local stockist or a national event like Blair or Blenheim, or maybe you’ve even been following one of our numerous ambassadors on their eventing journey.
So it may surprise you to know that despite our increasing notoriety, FOMO is a very small (but dedicated) team, meaning that as a small business, we have to cover all the bases that larger, more established brands do, with a much bigger workforce. Running a small business is a multifaceted endeavour that demands a willingness to take on a multitude of roles, so what does that mean at FOMO HQ?
Product design? Yes, we often collaborate as a team to bring our collective experience (Sports Engineering and Fashion Design to name a few!) together to create innovative products and try out new ideas. Safety, innovation and sustainability are at the heart of everything we do, so this is always a massive consideration in anything that we manufacture, whether it be investigating new more eco-friendly materials or repurposing post-production off-cuts from our protector manufacturing process to reduce our contributions to landfill, whilst still offering innovative products for riders of all abilities.
Manufacturing? Yes – although we were originally working with a small production unit at the beginning of the very first lockdown, we decided that in such uncertain times, we should invest in our production room to bring everything in-house. This not only means that we can be in control of our manufacturing but it also means that we can quickly develop prototypes when we have a great idea about a new product. All our protectors are made to order right here in our head office in Glasgow, Scotland.
Quality Control? You guessed it, we do that too! When our head of production Rachel isn’t overseeing the production of our protectors or horsewear, she is meticulously checking the quality of each and every item that leaves our HQ.
Of course, we do have annual external re-tests to ensure all our protectors, materials and components comply with the Beta Level 3 and CE Mark safety-testing standards.
We are proud to perform above and beyond the industry standard, meaning that when you buy a FOMO FAZE, you can ride with the assurance of unparalleled comfort and safety.
Sales? Absolutely- you will find Carmen, our intrepid MD on stand with stockists at lots of events throughout the season, she loves to meet new customers and help them get the absolute best fit from our protectors – with a massive size range (size 6 -18) and 3 body lengths in each size, we can cater to most body types. What’s more, we have a teenage range coming out very soon and a children’s range in development too!
As well as being out and about at lots of events across the country, we also offer a virtual fit session via our website www.fomoprotection.com – we can send you a complimentary fit pack, and set up an online meeting to help guide you through the fit process to find your perfect size.
Customer Services? Definitely! Being such a small company, we pride ourselves on knowing our products intimately, this means that no matter how you get in touch, whether that be in person, over the phone, by email or via any of our social media channels, you will always be speaking to the most knowledgeable people about our products – us!
Social Media? Yes, yes and yes! Again, this is quite a collaborative effort, social media management is a job in itself that encompasses photography, graphic design, sales and promotion, all to keep our community up to date with all our latest news, we love getting out on photoshoot days to find great ways to showcase our flagship protector FAZE, our sustainable and innovative horsewear, not to mention our great FOMO team wear.
As an equestrian safety company, we feel it’s really important to communicate with our followers how seriously we take making quality products that are rigorously safety tested.
Social media is also a great platform for us to host informative chats with our brand ambassadors and industry experts alike, helping to deliver great training tips and advice for riders of all abilities and disciplines. You can find previous reels on our Instagram page, or check out our previous blog posts for lots of helpful information.
So you can see, it’s not just riding hats we wear at Fomo, as a small but formidable team, we have to wear many hats to keep FOMO running smoothly day to day! Managing a small business certainly isn’t without its challenges, but we think it’s worth it to see you all #flyinginfaze!
